Donald Trump is at least 40 percentage points ahead of the next potential candidate. As a result, he is not part of tonight’s debate. Consequently, I call it: Republican 2024 Debate Debacle. At best, it will be good for Plan B or to determine the VP candidate.
I touched this dilemma in The Sun in November 2022. Nothing much changed in one year, except for Ron DeSantis. Trump now has a wider margin. DeSantis is solid second. He is ten points ahead of the third place candidate vying for the VP spot.
2024 PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION
Republicans are not the only ones with a presidential debate debacle. At least they have a VP contest going, so long as Donald Trump is around come November 2024.
Democrats have an even bigger wreck. They cannot even think if they should hold a 2024 presidential debate. Should someone challenge Joe and what to do with Kamala!
I also wrote about this mess in my recently published article in the Daily Mail. However, Democrats have a way to resolve their debate debacle.
They have a formidable candidate in Robert F. Kennedy Jr. He is clean, fit, and younger. Plus, he appeals to both Democrats and Republicans.
Republican 2024 Debate Debacle
Predictions and Perspectives
Back to work at hand. Tonight is the night for the first Republican debate and there will be “eight candidates for VP” on the panel.
That in itsel is the “debacle” because none of these eight can run for president. That spot in the Republican party is already a foregone conclusion.
As to who is on the debate tonight, the list contains two governors-in-office from North Dakota and Florida: Doug Burgum and Ron DeSantis, respectively.
Plus, there are three former governors: Chris Christie of New Jersey, Nikki Haley of South Carolina, and Asa Hutchinson of Arkansas.
Then there is Vivek Ramaswamy and former Vice President Mike Pence. What to make of either one of them will be difficult for most Republicans.
Finally, Sen. Tim Scott of South Carolina will top the list as the most likely to come out of this list as the VP choice for a Donald Trump ticket.
Predictions for Tonight
Ron DeSantis will allow himself a chance to continue as Mini Trump if he does not mess up. He must both look like a president but also like a “spare”.
Otherwise, Tim Scott will sound like the most viable VP candidate. He is a natural and a statesman, even when he is on the campaign trail.
Niki Haley could have presented the real challenge against Tim Scott in the VP slot. However, her chances are currently low and she must stay low: Never touch Trump.
As to the rest, who knows? However, a bit of advice would go a long way. Donald Trump today is what Ronald Reagan was then. Hence, he deserves respect, equally.
Perspective Tomorrow
Read in the GB News
Unless something extraordinary comes out of this “debate” exercise tonight, there will not be much perspective to write for me tomorrow in the GB News.
Except the fact that, Erbil Writes articles are in the GB News to inform Brits and the rest of the conservatives in the British Commonwealth.
They would like to know couple of things about America at this time. After all, America is still the leader in the Western Civilization.
One, if the “democratic” process still continues intact no matter how ridiculous or irrelevant life has become in America, since the 2016 and 2020 presidential elections.
Two, if there is a political persecution in America, next to not so well functioning “democratic” institutions, giving the impression that justice is not served well?
Otherwise, from the looks of how the Republican 2024 Debate Debacle is unfolding, not everything looks or sounds comforting to everyone on both sides of the Atlantic.
