I ran for Mayor in Palm Springs.
Reportedly, it’s one of top sixty cities in the world with global name recognition. My strategy was to go after, what is left of, 3 thousand Republican voters. The remaining 8 thousand were Democrats. So I, openly, loudly, and proudly declared: “I am a Republican.” My 7 opponents were smarter. They did not divulge their color. That is how my problem with LGBTQ unfolded.
PALM SPRINGS
Palm Spring is 100 miles away from Los Angeles. Hollywood stars founded it as the most suitable gateway. Laguna Beach and Santa Barbara had their allure. However, Palm Springs guaranteed 350 sunshine days.
So studios included a clause in the actor’s work agreements. They called it
”two-hour rule”. That is how they kept talents during production to stay within a two-hour drive of Los Angeles.
Then, Hollywood had traditional values. Common sense was the prevailing wisdom. America stood “at the summit of the world”. Life was good and the civil rights movement had not begun to pull the nation apart.
In other words, Palm Springs has been Conservative since it was founded. From Rat-Pack Dean Martin-Frank Sinatra-Sammy Davis Jr to Grace Kelly, Bob Hope, JFK, Marylin Monroe, Clark Gable, they all enjoyed it.
My Problem With LGBTQ
A Closet Society
Nobody told me that half of the Republican voters were also LGBTQ in Palm Springs. Even if they wanted to, they could not have voted for me.
LGBTQ, by nature, was a prisoner of its own doing. Intrinsically, it was throwing itself into the closet by keeping non-LGBTQ out of their lives.
Palm Springs
Next LGBTQ Closet
In recent times, Palm Springs became the next most popular “closet” for the LGBTQ. They came from NY, LA, and San Francisco.
As their numbers grew, they controlled the city. As a result, the same problems they ran away from started to reappear in Palm Springs.
My Problem With LGBTQ
Republican Syndrome
The other thing nobody told me until I ran for Mayor in Palms Springs was even more revealing. Palm Springs was like a laboratory to diagnose Republican syndrome.
Republicans are Conservative. In other words, they would like to mind their own business. They don’t like to poke their nose into others unless they are manipulated.
Conservative Republicans
Closet Tendency
Irony is that Conservative Republicans are not much different than LGBTQ. Particularly, when they come to the closet tendency.
They both like their own kind and are shy about outsiders. Much like LGBTQ, a Conservative Republican will not vote for no one that is not its own kind.
Palm Springs Closet
For Conservative Republicans
Understandably, when the number of LGBTQ increased, Conservative Republicans became more conservative in Palm Springs. Already close-society became even closer.
So much so, by the time half of the 50 thousand population became LGBTQ, Conservative Republicans had long replaced LGBTQ in the closet in Palm Springs.
My Problem With LGBTQ
As to my problem with LGBTQ, it is exactly that. Why did LGBTQ put Conservative Republicans into the closet in the first place? I put this blame on LGBTQ.
In other words, LGBTQ does not do what it must do. Instead, it creates a double problem: One of them is for the Conservative Republicans. The other is even worse.
In a sense, by coming out of the closet in Palm Springs, LGBTQ actually makes Conservative Republicans feel obliged to fill the vacuum and go into the closet instead.
Two, doesn’t LGBTQ understand, by driving most non-LGBTQ Conservative Republicans out of town, in fact, they are putting themselves into the closet again?
In other words, intentionally or inadvertently, they are creating their own vicious cycle. Only to lure Conservative Americans back, once they are all in the closet in Palm Springs again!
My Solution For LGBTQ
Palm Springs Desert Memorial Park
Don’t go into the closet! Ever!
Stay outside in the open and inside the rest of society, well immersed! Such that, no one should be able to pinpoint anything. Don’t poke bees’ nests!
I believe that is the best way an LGBTQ will have the most freedom.
First, the resourceful LGBTQ will no longer be able to enslave the unfortunate LGBTQ.
Two, Conservative Republicans will not go into a closet in the first place, never mind encouraging LGBTQ to follow them there, afterwards.
Palm Springs
Mayoral Election
The Mayoral Election in Palm Springs in 2015 was under extraordinary circumstances. It was a special election to replace the indicted Democrat Mayor.
The campaign officially began in May. Within a month in June, Donald J. Trump announced his candidacy for President in the United States of America.
I immediately supported his candidacy. I also became a pre-committed delegate for Trump in the Republican Party National Convention (RNC) in 2016.
As for the election for Mayor in Palm Springs, it took place gloriously, as scheduled in November 2015. The rest is history.
Palm Springs Closet
Dead & Buried
Ever since, I first selected the Desert Memorial Park, also known as the Palm Springs Cemetery, as the final resting place for my mother Sevim Gunasti.
My father, Ismail Basri, joined her there this year.
They are next to Sonny Bono and Frank Sinatra: The other two, all time Conservatives, side by side with all kinds of others like them from Hollywood.
They are all there, resting in peace. It is about time for LGBTQ and Conservative Republicans to do the same. Their shortcomings should long be dead & buried.
No one needs to know everything about them, much like, they don’t need to know about us, the Gunastis.
Gunastis in Palm Springs
Just that: “We are the biggest Turkish-American family that is Conservative but also Multicultural. Plus, we keep what is private remains private. Otherwise, we have been living in harmony for more than a decade in Palm Springs with all the LGBTQ in the world, and we continue to do so.”
