MAD: Not Wise For Israel
Retaliation in the 21st century would mean escalation of conflict in scale unlike in the 20th century. Plus, who has the power nowadays, be it nuclear, chemical, or electromagnetic, to name a few?
7 October 2023 will live in infamy for humanity. The scale of civilian death, injury, and abduction must compare to a genocide. The hard decision at this stage is how to respond. However, Mutual Assured Destruction - MAD: Not wise for Israel.
MUTUAL ASSURED DESTRUCTION (MAD)
“Mutual assured destruction (MAD) is a doctrine of military strategy and national security policy which posits that a full-scale use of nuclear weapons by an attacker on a nuclear-armed defender with second-strike capabilities would cause the complete annihilation of both the attacker and the defender,” according to a search engine.
Israel is known to be a non-declared nuclear power. Meanwhile, Palestinians in Gaza Strip have no major military platforms, not even a battle tank or an aircraft. Yet, Israelis and Palestinians are on the brink of annihilation of one another. Realistically, Israelis have the means. Palestinians do not. However, no one knows what else “terrorists” might have in store, having already increased the ante.

Time For Cool Heads To Prevail
In the aftermath of such large scale terrorist attacks against civilians, the world is divided into three camps. One side led by the US talks about an inordinate amount of retaliation against Gaza Strip inhabitants. Another side cheers the killing of innocent civilians with hatred and vengeance. Third camp asks for justice through de-escalation.
Full Scale Retaliation by Israel
Who in their right mind can suggest full scale retaliation except those that are feeling the pain? Having lost a family member or a brethren surely would justify full scale retaliation. However, what about the consequences?
One, there are hostages. One is too many when the number is 100. As a result, this becomes a genocide in reverse.
Freeing hostages must be the first priority, since Israel proper is not under direct threat. That is irrespective of even the total mobilization.
Two, full scale retaliation would have fatal consequences. Considering there is no more US hegemony or bipolar world to stop the carnage.
Palestinian Supporters
The support for the Palestinian cause in the world cannot be measured. For example, in the United Nations General Assembly, nearly 150 countries are on the record to have voted for a Palestinian cause. How many of them would not condem atrocities against civilians?
Arguments for De-Escalation and Then Justice
In the US, there must be a “silent majority” that would seek de-escalation and-then-justice, argument. The Jewish-Americans and their close supporters cannot be disqualified seeking retaliation.
At the end, saving the last hostage argument must win over those arguing for immediate retaliation. How old and how dire a situation of a hostage is, does not justify abandoning them.
The Israeli Defense Force can always bring justice in due process.
Now must be the time to save lives!
